Who We Are
The SADC Institute of African Medicine is a pioneering digital higher education institution, established by the late founder, Professor Mbaimbai Hlati, to build a credible, academically rigorous, and accreditation-aligned home for African knowledge in the 21st century.
Indigenous Knowledge
We position African knowledge systems at the centre of our content. Natural medicine is treated as primary intellectual frameworks that deserve formal study, critical research, and full academic recognition within a modern higher education context.
Operating within the regulatory landscape of South Africa, the Institute aligns with the Council on Higher Education, the National Qualifications Framework, and pursues formal recognition through the South African Qualifications Authority. Our institutional design prioritises not only compliance, but enduring credibility and trust.
Our academic offering is structured across five faculties: Indigenous and Complementary Health Sciences; Health Sciences and Nursing; Education; Law and Governance; and Management and Human Sciences. Programmes span from Higher Certificate to doctoral level, with each faculty supported by a dedicated research centre to ensure that knowledge creation remains at the heart of the institution.
As a digital-first institute, we provide access to world-class, African-centred education across the SADC region. Our integrated learning management systems, student information platforms, and personalised academic support create an experience that is both intellectually rigorous and deeply human, allowing students to learn without leaving their communities.
